LOWELL — Roll out the red carpet.

After weeks of negotiations, Lowell has landed a premiere showing of the highly anticipated Micky Ward biopic The Fighter on Thursday, Dec. 9, one day before the movie hits theaters nationwide.

The premiere will take place at Showcase Cinemas at 7:30 p.m. A reception will be held before the screening at the Courtyard by Marriott, 30 Industrial Avenue East, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Tickets to the reception cost $75 each. Proceeds will benefit Team Micky Ward Charities and the Greater Merrimack Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Reception tickets will be available for purchase Monday, Nov. 29, at 10 a.m., by calling the Visitor Bureau at 978-459-6150. The announcement was made at a Wednesday morning press conference at the hotel attended by Ward, State Sen. Steve Panagiotakos, state Reps. Dave Nangle, Kevin Murphy and Tom Golden, and Deborah Belanger, executive director of the Visitors Bureau.

Ward said he is hoping the film’s stars, Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, will attend the premiere, but is not “100 percent” sure that they will be able to make it.

In the coming weeks Ward plans to fly out to Los Angeles for a premiere of the film on Dec. 5 and then return to Massachusetts for another premiere in Hingham, where Wahlberg’s family owns a restaurant, Alma Nove.
