The 7DAYPSA, FLICKERS and WCVB-TV 5 will once again host this multi-award winning event. Starting on April 10th, teams of local filmmakers will be challenged to create (write, shoot & edit) a broadcast quality public service announcement (PSA) in only seven days. This timed competition invites teams of New England filmmakers to do something good for their careers and their karma by producing amazing PSAs for local non-profit organizations that provide much needed services to the community. These are organizations that can’t afford the cost of a producing a creative, broadcast quality spot. WCVB-TV 5 will be airing the winning PSAs for an entire year. Several of the previous year’s 7DAYPSA entries have garnered New England Emmy Award nominations and one PSA went on to win the coveted Emmy statue for their filmmaker team. Another PSA took home an award for best PSA at the New Media Film Festival.
If you work in the professional Hollywood or advertising world, or you’re an indie filmmaker, student filmmaker or just a talented amateur, the 7DAYPSA needs you. All filmmakers are encouraged to put together a team and get creative. There is on average, a ratio of three teams per non-profit organization to insure that each non-profit ends up with several completed PSAs to choose from, so the more teams that enter means that more non-organizations will get PSAs. In the past, the non-profits choose to use all the spots created for them. This is a writing challenge, a shooting challenge and an editing challenge that you’ll be glad you accepted. You’re challenged to use your filmmaking skills to create a micro short film to grab the attention of, and touch the emotions of, the viewing audience, and all while adding a professional credit to your resume.
In May, the BOSTON 7DAYPSA will be topped off by an awards evening at the WCVB-TV 5 Studios in Needham. Hosted by Channel 5 personalities who will recognize the wonderful work of all the filmmakers and present our best of BOSTON 7DAYPSA awards that have been judged by a panel of award winning industry professionals.
