SCITUATE, Mass. —“American Fiction,” a comedy-drama based on a 2001 novel and full of recognizable Massachusetts scenery, earned five Academy Award nominations on Tuesday.
The film is about a novelist who adopts a pen name because he’s frustrated with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment and sets out to write satire but finds his work is received with high sales and acclaim. Jeffrey Wright stars as the author alongside Tracee Ellis Ross, John Ortiz and others.
“American Fiction” was directed by Cord Jefferson and based on the novel, “Erasure” by Percival Everett.
