Underexposed Film Festival 2012

ROCK HILL – The Arts Council of York County is excited to present the premiere Underexposed Film Festival 2012. Independent filmmakers across the United States are welcome to submit professionally presented films, in one of the following categories: narrative, documentary, animation, or experimental, with a runtime of sixty minutes or less to participate in this juried competition. “The Underexposed Film Festival is out of the box and running in its inaugural season, with a mission to offer the finest independent short films it can find from across the country. Its calling is to strive for quality, story, and integrity. Its goal is to offer a unique and rewarding experience for the audience,” notes filmmaker, Terry Roueche.

Postmark deadlines and entry fees for the Underexposed Film Festival 2012 are as follows:

August 17 – $15 per entry
August 31 – $25 per entry
September 14 – $30 per entry
October 5 – $35 per entry

Visit yorkcountyarts.org for guidelines & registration forms. Awards totaling $1000 will be presented at the festival.

Working with the Arts Council of York County to organize this festival are filmmaker and local artist, Terry Roueche, and Karen Collins, a veteran filmmaker whose credits include Gettysburg and The Thin Red Line. Collins stresses, “It is important to celebrate independent shorts. Often this is the purest form of filmmaking. The independent short often tackles subjects and ideas that would be considered too risky for mainstream filmmaking. Here, a director has the opportunity to educate, entertain and move his or her audience in a more intimate way than can be achieved in a multiplex.” The films selected for screening will be shown at the Underexposed Film Festival 2012, to be held at the Community Performance Center, 249 East Main Street, Rock Hill, SC, on November 9-10, 2012.
